May updates!

Good day, all. Lots of stuff to talk about here this month. Right off the bat, some good news on the behalf of both Solarcide authors; Nathan Pettigrew and Martin Garrity.

nathNathan scored some great recognition with his recent popular fiction award in Writer’s Digest. His story, Dog Killer, got the nod for the best crime fiction picks and, frankly, its awesome to see his writing getting this kind of attention.

IMAG0005And word was received that Martin’s story, Godlings, will be featured in the debut issue of The Shwibly’s printed magazine. There are some great names lined up for the contents page and we’re eagerly looking forward to the release.

newAnd, of course, a new month means a new special guest feature. This month, we host author and poet, Hannah Lackoff, with her bold take on a dark tale, in poetic form.

HannahHannah has been gained a number of excellent credits both online and in print, and Shimmering, her new feature here for us at Solarcide, is a weird and wonderful read.

Check it out here.

shimmerNext up in the news, is a little status update on our forthcoming print format anthology release, Flash Me! The Sinthology. The project is moving along, into the final edits and proof-reading stage, and the final roll-call of contributing authors can be seen here. There is also now finalised artwork for the project, which was created by our lovely ally, Rebecca Jones-Howe.

flashsmallNo solid release date yet, but progress is being made all the time and we should have more updates before too long. Keep your eyes peeled!

logoAnd finally.

Next month is a bit of a milestone for us. Actually, scratch that, it’s a lot of a milestone. The beginning of June will mark the second birthday of Solarcide. We shall, of course, have some fun happening to celebrate. We’ll be looking to make some big announcements, run some great guest content, and host our next book give-away.

Check back in June for the scoops and the party. Should be a good un’.

Rock on, folks!

Flashy Updates & Vault Deposits

flashsmall

As you may know, we are currently calling for submissions for our next anthology – lovingly dubbed Flash Me! the Sinthology. Well, we have a quick update regarding this project and the deadlines for submissions.

We have received some excellent work so far. Many people have sent us work (and it’s great to see new names and old friends alike amongst the subs) and those people should soon be receiving their responses.

We do, however, want to see more. There’s a thirst here that is not quite quenched. We want more sin, more decadence, and more flashing. As a result the deadline for submissions to this project is being extended from the end of this month, to the end of March. That’s a whole extra month for you to open up that literary rain coat and show us your grizzly bits.

This is going to be one decadent anthology.

You should pull up your stockings and crotchless pants and join us.

Check out the submissions guidelines here.

vault

Also in the news this week – another deposit of stories to our vault of fun. Bringin’ it back with a literary attack this week are some of our very good friends.

Bryan Howie, with his tale of the nuances of modern womanhood.

Terasa Skultety, with a story about lightning storms in a dust bowl.

and

Terence Kuch, with a ditty about lines, and how to cross them.

Get em’ while the getting’s good!

There will be lots more fun to come over the coming months! Look for a new guest story going up in February, and of course you should all be checking out the submissions page for our Flash Me! anthology.

For now, to see out the month, here are three more stories for the vault.

The Relaunch Continues

logo

The 2013 relaunch of the site rolls on and the Solarcide authors gear for up for ever bigger, and ever better things. To continue the great vibe around the site this month, we have a couple more announcements.

The new author pages for the co-editors here are now fully live and up-to-date. Check them out under the “About ” tab.

John Spinx

First up Nathan Pettigrew offers you a chance to follow the white rabbit. In his author section you will find links to all of his online short stories, including several that follow the adventures of Roland Thomas from Bayou Black, the main character from Nathan’s WIP novel project. Look for Roland The Conqueror at DarkMedia for a highlight.

Right now Nathan is promoting a new story, Wakey Wake, which is published in the award-winning pages of Thuglit, available now at Amazon in paperback and Kindle.

With more short story publications already confirmed for the future, Nathan is set to keep his hot-streak running way into the new year.

And then Martin Garrity gives a preview of the cover artwork for his short story collection, Corridors, set for publication by Solarcide in 2013.

Featuring dozens of short stories and flash fiction pieces, Corridors will be a cracked mirror to the world of the weird. Here’s what Paul D. Brazill, author of The Gumshoe, Guns Of Brixton, and 13 Shots Of Noir, had to say about the collection.

-“The sharply sliced tales in Garrity’s CORRIDORS give an askew view of the world, a peek over the precipice of a dream, a glimpse into life’s dark corners.”

More blurbs can be found at the author page.

tvgiveaway

Not content with simply blowing our own horns in this announcement, we have more to share. Solarcide has teamed up with Bradley Sands, bizarro veteran and authors of titles such as Sorry I Ruined Your Orgy and Rico Slade Will Fucking Kill You, for a great new book give-away.

To be in with a chance of winning a SIGNED copy of Bradley’s latest book, TV Snorted My Brain, all you have to do is either hit the “Like” button on the Solarcide Facebook page, or sign up directly to this site as an email subscriber, before the 31st of January.

At the end of the months we will draw a winner to receive the awesome prize.

Bradley’s writing is hilarious. You don’t want to miss this chance to get a signed copy of his latest adventure, which is published by Legume Man Books.

vaultAnd finally, we have added two more stories to The Vault today.

If you’re looking for something fun to read tonight, how about a bizarroadtrip with David Bobis and Curtain Cape, or a punchline from a forgotten joke with Bordello by Jay Slayton-Joslin.

See you again soon, folks.

As always, Rock On!

Five for The Vault

vaultOver the coming weeks will be bringing back some of the guest stories we ran over the past eighteen months. These stories will return to publication in our Vault.

The first batch of guest stories are now live.

POETRY (Poems) by Laramore Black

A mini collection of weird and wonderful word-play.

THE TOOTH FAIRY (Short story) by Dakota Taylor

Sometimes things are more than they seem.

LOOSE STRINGS (Short story) by Mike Frounfelter

Memories are in turmoil in this quality piece of creative non fiction.

We’re back, and we have big news!

logoWe’re back, baby!

After a period of down-time to welcome in the new year, we have returned. Happenings around here are about to become more fun than ever.

We have a brand new, retro-funk design, and a new page layout to match recent changes around here, of which there are many. There are some very grand plans for 2013.

Where to start?

new

Possibly the biggest news, is our new strategy for guest story content. We will now be running a regular, monthly, guest story slot. We hope for this feature to become one of the most exciting online venues for short stories, and to up the ante on our end we will now be paying for guest content that is accepted.

That’s right, you can now earn a payday by sending us your work. We will pay $50 (USD) for every story we run. Only a single story will be selected each month, so bring your A-game if you’re thinking about hitting up this party!

The grizzly details on how to submit can be found in the Submissions Guidelines. We really look forward to seeing what comes our way.

And to kick things off on that front…

andrea

…our guest story for January is already live!

Year Of The Pig comes from a new face to these pages. In fitting style, Andrea Taylor actually makes her fiction publication debut to kick-start off our new monthly feature.

With the quality of this work, it’s hard to belive Andrea isn’t a household name already . We’re certain that this publication will not be her last.

It’s a dark one for sure. Check it out here.

We have also set up a page in our guest story section called The Vault, which will be the new home for some of the guest story content we ran over the past eighteen months. Look out for an update about this real soon.

triskele

That’s not all for the big announcements in this update. Following hot on the heels of last year’s Nova Parade anthology, we are delighted to announce our newest feature release project.

flashsmall

Are you ready to get dirty with us? Because over the coming weeks, we are accepting submissions for Flash Me! The Sinthology, featuring one of our closest friends and allies, Mr Chester Pane, (The Flash Assassin™) as co-editor.

Flash Me! has a proud history of written perversions, and we are very happy to be continuing its evolution with this bona-fide, flash extravaganza. It’s going to be a whole lot of filthy, decadent fun.

This project will also be our first foray into print format publishing, another milestone in our quest to wage war on the sun.

There is more information on this project here, and the specifics on submissions can be found here.

We hope for many of you to be joining us is shaming ourselves with this project.

Finally, some more news. Solarcide will, for the next batch of episodes, be the official sponsor of the Books and Booze podcast. The crew over there do great work, putting out informative, and sometimes hilarious, interviews with exciting special guests. They’re good friends of ours over there and it’s great to be working alongside them.

And that’s about all.

For now. Keep your eyes peeled for more posts later this month, including the filling of The Vault and the info on a tasty book give-away.

Rock on, fuckers. All the best,

Martin Garrity & Nathan Pettigrew
